If you prefer a somewhat quieter place, you might rather enjoy the beaches in the north where you can recharge your batteries on a hike through the lovely scenery of forests and inland lakes. In the west, the romantic in you may appreciate a wonderful view of a fantastic sunset. The wide sandy beaches at Grüner Brink and in Burgtiefe offer plenty of space for children to romp around and play. Would you like to relax in a beach chair? Beach chair hire is available at the south beach in Burgtiefe, at the beaches in Meeschendorf, Bojendorf and Grüner Brink. And if you seek quiet and peacefulness you will find your very personal oasis in Püttsee or at Gammendorfer Strand. And if you are a nature fan or a stone collector: the beaches at Wenkendorf, Staberdorf and Flügge or the natural beaches near Westermarkelsdorf and Marienleuchte will be the places for you to go. Here you can discover gneisses, Baltic Sea jade or thunderbolts - artefacts from the Cretaceous period, some of which many million years old.

Just let the fresh sea wind blow in your face. Make a detour to the cliffs of Wulfen and Katharinenhof or take a walk along the beach to the Staberhuk lighthouse. Activities of all sorts are available in Gold, Orth or at the Burger Binnensee. Because of its ideal weather and surfing and kiting conditions, Fehmarn is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts.

Safety first: During the summer season, the beaches of Altenteil, Burgtiefe, Bojendorf/Wallnau, Meeschendorf, Wulfen and Grüner Brink, among others, are guarded by lifeguards (DLRG). Barrier-free on the beach? During the main season, two beach wheelchairs are available free of charge at the DLRG main guardpost on the south beach.
