Ostseestöpsel

Short facts

The Ostseestöpsel - the so-called "Plug of the Baltic Sea" - is a former water level gauge, that was also equipped with a lamp and therefore also served as a reference point for ships in foggy weather. In 1942 pack ice caused its sloping position.

On Fehmarn, there is a myth, saying that the Baltic Sea will run empty when someone pulls out this plug. Just as you know it from the bathtub.
