Peter und Paul chapel

Short facts

  • Fehmarn OT Puttgarden
Between 1198 and 1644, the Peter and Paul Chapel, stood near Puttgaden, built on the instruction of the Danish ruler Knud VI who thus complied with a request by the Pope. Here in Puttgarden, pilgrims who came from the Danish island of Lolland thanked their Lord for the safe passage and gave a thank-offering into the oak offering block, the so-called "beach block", which at that time stood in front of the chapel on the open beach. This beach block is now located in the Saint Jürgen chapel in Burg.
